The College Student's Guide to Finding Apartments for Rent
Congratulations! You've passed and you're going to college. You are probably now searhcing for your very first apartment for rent. It may seem like hard work, but stay cool. There are lots of helpful resources out there to make your search quick and easy.
Needless to say, you're reading this on the Internet, and it is indeed a great resource! Go on to a search engine of your choosing, like Yahoo, MSN, or Google, type in "apartments for rent" and your city of choice, and you'll find pages and pages of sites that will point you to great places to rent!
By the way, do not forget your local newspapers. The classifieds is a great way to research your apartment for rent. Most landlords still use this traditional but effective way to advertise their properties for rent. Remember the college or university's newspaper too. You'll probably find many student-friendly apartments advertised there as well.
**More Fast Tip** If a apartment tile has a particular pattern there are many places where it could be used to augment the feel of the home including the kitchen. Whilst it is the tiling aspect that tends to dominate kitchens and bathrooms, there are many other apartment decorating ideas that can be used. Simple things that often get overlooked but can be visually appealing are soap dispensers and soap dishes. In fact some of the home decoration periodicals have illustrated how easy it is to actually make your own soap trays and dispensers. One uncommon design for a soap tray was to make it by hand out of clay, which you must admit is quite novel. Other great ideas include positioning a calming picture or print opposite the bath like a lake, seascape or landscape for example. With the materials and information available today, there is no excuse not to turn your apartment into something very special.
After shortlisting the apartments you're interested in, it is time to visit the apartments and have a good feel about them. Think of what you need first. Such as, what is your budget for renting an apartment? If you're paying for your own housing, then you need to take that into consideration. Your apartment should not cost more than one-third of your income. However, if you're a college student, there may be special programs or college privileges that help you pay your rent. Check with the financial aid office of your college or university to find out if there are any programs available that can help you.
One cost-effective way to afford the perfect apartment is by getting a roommate, or even two! Roommates can allow you to live in a place you never could have afforded if you are alone. However, make sure you choose roommates that are compatible with you. Such as, if you're a non-smoker, it's probably not a good idea to choose a smoker. If peace and quiet is your thing, stay away from someone whom you think would have a lot of loud company. The right roommate can perhaps turn into a close friend. So be sure to pick someone you like!
**Fast Tip** If you are moving to another state for example, the best options for locating apartments for rent are sites like apartments.com but there are many others. These websites have details of apartment community information, pertaining to the number of rooms, the starting rental prices and they also are also able to provide assorted photos. This is a much simpler process than unnecessary travel when everything you need to know is detailed on the site. Through the websites, you can utilize an option that many offer, to schedule the showing of an apartment without making any special arrangements. It might be wise however, to make a call, just to see if an apartment that fits your criteria remains available. Unfortunately, there is a downside to using sites like these; they are very discriminatory about the type of accommodation they detail, preferring to leave out small and privately owned residences.
With a little research and some effort, you can find the perfect apartment that will be your home throughout your college years - an apartment that is affordable, close to school, and a nice place to come home to!
